Courtois explains who caused Real Madrid’s defeat against Rayo Vallecano: “What happened is absurd”

Belgian Thibaut Courtois refused his anger at Real Madrid’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Rayo Vallecano in the match that took place between them yesterday, Monday, in the 13th round of the Spanish Premier League.

Real Madrid lost the top of the La Liga standings after this result, as its balance froze at 32 points, in second place behind Barcelona, the leaders, with 34 points.

“With so many matches, it might be normal that we are not in good shape from a physical point of view,” Courtois said in televised comments after the match. The draw with Girona was due to bad luck. Today was not our best day and Rayo played well and deserved to win.”

He added: “Rayo Vallecano is having a great season, we knew that the match would be difficult and we were not up to the task in the first half. It’s a shame, I saved the penalty and in the end everything changes. I hope that this is our only defeat in La Liga and that we wake up from it.”

He continued: “We get ridiculous goals in almost every game. A lot of it comes from our lack of focus.”

He concluded his statements by acquitting himself of the defeat and holding Carvajal responsible for retaking the penalty kick that Rayo Vallecano won. The Belgian goalkeeper said: “They scored the penalty, which made them win in the end. The penalty was replayed because Carvajal entered the area early, not because of me. I was positioned correctly and I tackled it.”
