Ancelotti plead with Florentino Perez to sign the Serie A duo urgently to save Real Madrid’s season
Ancelotti had wanted to bolster his attack since returning to the Bernabeu last year and was frustrated by his failure to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Karim Benzema’s current injury has amplified the problem that Real Madrid suffers from and the quick thinking to bring offensive reinforcements, which made Ancelotti set the contract with the Italian league duo as a priority to buy in the next winter market in January, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport.
According to the newspaper, Carlo Ancelotti appealed to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to do his best to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and AC Milan star Rafael Leao in January.
Leao has become one of Milan’s most important players and is wanted by Europe’s biggest clubs, with Chelsea and Manchester City preparing to battle it out for the Portuguese star.
Leao was named Serie A Player of the Year for 2021-22 and has continued to shine again this season, scoring six goals and adding nine assists in just 17 games so far in both Serie A and the Champions League.
With Liao’s contract expiring in the summer of 2024, Milan are said to be considering hearing offers, if the right one is made, as they don’t want to risk losing another star on a free transfer.
Leao is said to be demanding a hefty salary from Milan of £170,000-a-week to stay at the San Siro, which could see the likes of Real take advantage of the situation in the new year.
While Leao has been shining star in Serie A with AC Milan, Ancelotti is also interested in doing a double whammy by signing Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker was firing with all his might with Napoli, scoring nine goals in 13 games in all competitions, and helping send Luciano Spalletti to the top of the Italian league, with a 14-game unbeaten streak.
The need for the No. 9 striker comes after the frequent absence of Benzema, who recently won the Ballon d’Or, with a leg injury and is unlikely to return to Real until after the World Cup.
Despite the inconsistency in his fitness this season, Benzema still scored six goals and one assist in 11 games, but his continued absence so far has made it difficult for him to repeat the level he gave last season.
On his way to becoming the oldest player to win his first Ballon d’Or since Stanley Matthews more than six decades ago, Benzema led the way for Real Madrid with 34 goals and 15 assists in 46 games last season.
