After Benzema’s injury.. Real Madrid responds to Cristiano Ronaldo’s request to return

It seems unlikely that Cristiano Ronaldo will play for Manchester United again and his former club Real Madrid have come to a decision on a possible return for the Portuguese forward.

The veteran striker appears set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window after severing ties with the Red Devils during his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo had previously submitted a request to leave in the summer before claiming he had been “betrayed” by United.

The club has already begun the process of terminating the remainder of the two-year contract he drafted to return from Juventus.

His future now remains up in the air with clubs such as Chelsea, Napoli and Atlético Madrid all linked with his services. Now, Spanish newspaper Sport reports that the veteran forward has offered his services to Real Madrid.

He is currently the club’s record goalscorer, having scored 450 goals in 438 matches during his spell at the Santiago Bernabéu. This impressive record certainly helped the Spanish side win four Champions League titles, two LaLiga titles and more.

Speaking after helping the club to the Club World Cup in 2017, Ronaldo hinted that he was looking forward to retiring with Real Madrid.

When asked if he had ambitions to go beyond his career with the Spanish club, he replied: “I would really like to, but things do not depend on me. What depends on me is what I do on the field.”

“I am not the one who runs the club, this is for the officials. My job is on the pitch and I think I do it well, the rest I can’t control.

After former teammate Karim Benzema suffers an injury – ending his World Cup hopes – Ronaldo could become an emergency option in the January transfer window.

Super agent Jorge Mendes appears to be trying to negotiate Ronaldo’s exit from Old Trafford, but things could prove difficult given Real Madrid’s position.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Spanish giants are not expected to make a move for the Portuguese or any striker in the winter window. This news is sure to be detrimental to Ronaldo as he is looking forward to reuniting with his former club.
